Recycling our Exhibition sets and build at the Manchester Museum

In building our current ‘Grave Secrets’ exhibition, the main central display used materials recycled from the Lindow Man exhibition , the Darwin exhibition, the Living Worlds gallery and from the ‘Unearthed’ exhibition. The materials made up approximately 50% of the build and were timber, z.f. non-formaldehyde board, acrylic, and paints; we also re-used two boxes of 1 1Ž4 wood screws.  Another recent exhibition, ‘ExtInked’ was constructed by re-using materials from the ‘Finding Manchester’ exhibition.  Where possible we will always try to recycle as much as we can and purchase from sustainable sources for the rest.  Because we have limited long-term storage space, any materials that do have to be thrown away go for recycling via the University disposals systems or else we find suitable homes for them, for example we give board and timber off-cuts to students in the School of Architecture for model-making.
