On Monday Pete Stringer from Red Rose Forest ran a workshop with 18 staff from the Gallery and Museum to look at all the green initiatives which are happening across the city. We heard all about I-trees, the experiment to prove how effective street trees are in improving both air temperature and drainage, about the green roof projects across the city (including the one here at the Whitworth) and the city’s Green Infrastructure plans.
Staff took part in a short workshop to look at aerial photographs of the city centre and identify where there are opportunities for more green space, green roofs and trees. It was a revelation to see how much space there is in the city which could be developed to make Manchester a greener, more welcoming place to live and work. We look forward to see the Green Infrastructure plan when it’s complete.
